A CURE FOR BROKENNESS

Each one of us started out as broken.  We were much like the axe head illustrated in Pastor Lawrence’s sermon through 2 Kings 6 this past Sunday, headed for the bottom of the river and lost forever.  But like the axe head in the passage, there is a cure for our brokenness.  But the freedom from brokenness isn’t free.  It required the blood of Christ and also requires a decision by every broken person to follow Him as one’s Savior.  God has made a way for everyone to be made whole. The death, burial and resurrection atoned for the sins of every person.  And an individual’s belief in Christ is the only solution for the only brokenness that really matters.  Other people can hurt you, other people can harm you, other people can scar you, without a doubt.  But nobody can ruin your life except you.  You have a choice and that is you get to choose how you’re going to respond to that brokenness.  God made a way and the decision is up to each individual in how to respond to the greatest gift of all.

The MercyMe song Flawless contains some great lyrics that describe how a person can allow God to overcome brokenness when one is introduced to His amazing grace:

Could it possibly be, that we simply can’t believe, that this unconditional kind of love would be enough to take a filthy wretch like this, and wrap him up in righteousness, that’s exactly what He did.  No matter the bumps, no matter the bruises, no matter the scars, still the truth is, the cross has made, the cross has made you flawless.  No matter the hurt, or how deep the wound is, no matter the pain, still the truth is, the cross has made, the cross has made you flawless.

Brokenness doesn’t have to be something which defines our physical lives here on earth.  We can accept the great gift of God through Christ, which has made a way for us to have a new life, filled with the joy of knowing we will spend eternity with Him.  Choose Christ and become whole.
