SETTING THE TABLE

It was never God’s design for man to be alone….He made it clear in the beginning. Love always requires an object and since God is love, we are able to participate, as beings made in His image, in the awesome relationships that so fulfill us. In turn, these point us to a future where we can experience these loves without the accompanying pain the current world brings.

There is preparation that is required on our parts. Pastor Lawrence pointed out Sunday that the heart of God is towards adoption. We have a place at the table because of this heart. In order for us to participate in all the gloriousness of what God has in store for us, we have to have an openness that is incredibly difficult without the help of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 68:6 is a fascinating commentary on the subject:

“God sets the lonely in families,

    he leads out the prisoners with singing;

    but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”

It is so interesting that the comparison is between those who are in families and those set free from bondage with those who are rebellious. It is literally rebelling against God’s design when we are not participating in relationships of love.

The only question left is, what objections have we raised in our own hearts that are keeping us from fulfilling His purpose?? Holy Spirit, have mercy and show us how to follow you more fully.
