THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING

If you haven’t heard the message that Pastor Aaron Velázquez and his wife (interpreting) gave on Sunday, do yourself a favor and go back and watch the recording. It was a phenomenal sermon and they delivered so well. The key point that I took away is “just because we don’t hear God, doesn’t mean he isn’t speaking.” So often in our lives we are distracted by many things, listening to many voices and generally focusing our attention on everything except God’s Word.

We get frustrated when we can’t “hear” him anymore, wondering why He has changed. It is only after we embrace the silence that we remember He never changes. God has always been there, always loving and always inviting us into intimacy with Him. But we often turn to the idols of our phones, podcasts, favorite shows and influencers, grasping for nuggets of truth and encouragement.

While these resources can all be helpful in small doses, the ultimate Truth is the living word of God and we often don’t hear or “feel” it speaking to our lives, because we are absorbing so much other “noise”. We have to allow ourselves to be comfortable in silences before we can expect to hear our Savior’s “still small voice”. He is always speaking to us, but are we listening? Let’s dedicate time in our lives this week to setting aside all other voices / distractions and then see what we hear.
