GOD INCARNATE

Some unbelievers have trouble believing Jesus is 100% God. However, there are some believers that have trouble believing Jesus was also 100% man. In order to see the real Jesus, we have to believe both.

We know he was God through John 1:1, John 1:14 and Acts 1:9-11.What are some ways we know that Jesus is man? Aside from having a human birth, there is other evidence.

Scripture reveals to us that much of the time, he had human emotions. He felt grief. In John 11:33-37 we see where Lazarus had died and Jesus was four days late getting to his grave and wept. He felt sorrow in Matthew 26:38 where he was in the Garden of Gethsemane and said, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death”.

He felt amazement – Matthew 8 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to the crowd, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all the land of Israel! He felt love. Examples are: Mark 10:21 (the rich man parable); in John 11:5 (Lazarus and his sisters Mary and Martha); for his disciples in John 13:1 (washing of the disciples’ feet); He felt compassion – Mark 1:41 In healing a man with leprosy, he was filled with compassion.

We also see he had human experiences and needs:

  • We see he was tired when he met the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4:6.
  • We see he was hungry in Matthew 4:2 prior to being tempted by the devil.
  • We see he was thirsty on the cross in John 19:28
  • We see him in agony in Luke 22:44
  • We see that he died a physical death in Luke 23:46

So why did Jesus go through all of these experiences and suffer through these needs? Because of his love for each and every one of us.

The concept of fully God and fully man is a difficult one to comprehend but one that we accept on faith and the evidence provided. He was still fully God and fully man as he walked the earth.

Thanks Mike! This is good. I think that “He felt love” is not only a human characteristic, as God also loves (and is love). Yes, God is never physically tired, etc. Again, thanks for putting this together in a way that is easy to understand what we can understand, and what we can’t. God bless you, re
